Puentes Malos

Anton Munar
Pol Wah Tse

Keishun-in Temple
11 Hanazonoteranonakacho
Kyoto, 616-8036, Japan

19.04.2025 - 10.05.2025
Open daily 9am - 5pm

The title Puentes Malos comes from Munar and Tse’s strong belief in following broken paths and allowing for the misunderstandings that take place through the making of art to be moments of mutation and growth. It will showcase new bodies of work and collaborative gestures made in Japan, comprising a dialogue with the architectural and historical surroundings of the temple. Most of all, it is a materialisation of a deep friendship between both artists and a shared commitment and passion for art in all its variants. Housed at the historic Keishun-In Temple, founded in 1598, this will be the artists’ first exhibition in Japan and first joint exhibition.

Anton Munar (b. 1997) plays with a wide range of materials encompassing oil, distemper, gouache, ink, charcoal, chalk, pastel and pigments, which he combines in varied mixtures to be applied either to canvas, linen, or wood, often borrowed from pieces of furniture such as found drawers. Through these rich layers of paint, he builds up evocative compositions at the confluence of fragmented narratives drawn from the driving force of love, where interior and exterior spaces intertwine and where phantasmagoric visions infiltrate the physical world. His recent solo exhibitions have been held at Christian Andersen (Copenhagen, 2025), Peres Projects (Seoul, 2024), Brunette Coleman (London, 2024), Peres Projects (Berlin, 2023).

Pol Wah Tse (b. 1997) is a sculptor whose artistic language utilises traditional fine art mediums and everyday materials and isolates their proprietary identities in the context of their function. His practice focuses on use, misuse, and play in a syntax that recombines the status of materials as interchangeable. Tse has recently exhibited at Hothouse (London, 2024), and Final Hot Desert (London, 2024). Future shows will be held at Digestivo (Madrid), Fluent (Santander).
